I like your philosophical thinking on this one. I’ve definitely thought of this same thing, myself, Thomas. Hard work, at least for me, has meaning. Hard is an adverb in this instance. The word has practical meaning and doesn’t have to be anything more than exemplifying the type of work by definition.

I sometimes say “Smart work” or things like that.
