Hi Judy- I think confines in this context is used more as a literary device. I suppose it’s somewhat literal but I don’t view my son is necessarily limited. We pondered whether to send him to a Montessori school but ultimately decided the school we send him to is a great first step in education. I’ve personally observed him in his new setting and he’s given plenty of autonomy to discover and explore. He’s not even two years-old!
